Who looks at this and sees a minivan?
This is a minivan.
The Pilot has devolved into a crossover. #FPCommenters
But in all seriousness, the Minivan is a dead concept, isn't it?
EDIT: Just made this superimposition.

devolved? It started as a crossover.

I dunno, I could see why people say it. It doesn't look all that different from the Odyssey to be honest with you.

According to the manufacturer marketing speak, this is not a minivan either.

I'm not seeing it.

Behind that grill I see a hell of a lot of Audi in that thing. Screams Q5, or 7, I don't really know the difference between them.

Well when you factor in design language, sure, it probably does resemble the Odyssey. I still don't see a minivan in it though.

it's definitely a crossover. I'll upload some pics of it probably tonight.

One of them is 82.3% smaller.

But it's always been based on a car, which is why it's a crossover.

THIS IS CLEARLY NOT A MINIVAN BECAUSE WE HAVE DISGUISED THE BLOB BY MAKING THE HOOD TALL. IT IS TOTALLY NOW A TWO BOX DESIGN AND NOT A BLOB AND WE ARE GENIUS.
In seriousness, no sliding doors and tall hood - tada! Not a minivan. Somehow.

Aah yes, the "luxury MPV."

From Minivan to Pilot in two easy steps:
Replace sliding doors with normal doors
Lift suspension; add bigger tires.

it may look tougher, but its absolutely nothing but a crossover. In fact the new model is probably stronger in every way despite its soft looks. Gen 1, 2 and 3 were/are built on the shared platform with the Accord, Acura TL and Odyssey...Crossover.

I do! ...especially when you compare the equivalent 2002 models of those same vehicles.
The first gen Pilot had very truck-like & BOF features despite being built on a unibody chassis whereas the new Pilot has very minivan-like features & profile despite a slighter taller ride height and the lack of sliding doors of a minivan.

The pilot has always been just an odyssey pretending to be a SUV. Just like the highlander, current explorer, and GM lamda all minivan based.

True.

Crossovers are the new minivan. Every soccer mom has one but doesnt like the image of the minivan. And like others have said its been a crossover, now its just more Traverse-esque rather than traditional SUV looking.

No, the Lambda's are not at all based on minivans.

Double checked, they are Epsilon derived.

It looks like a tall minivan to me.
The Pilot was, to me, an SUV before. It was car based so I guess you could call it a cross-over, but it was big and kinda tall like an SUV. And it was shaped like an SUV.
The new one just looks like an Odyssey on stilts to me.

I see a "sport utility van"

I also think most newer cuv's look like minivans. I often refer to my parents new qx60 as a minivan just to get on their minivan hating nerves. I just said screw being "cool" and went for the minivan for my family and have no regrets. Something is off about that super imposed pic because the pilot is only about 10 inched shorter than the odyssey and the pick makes it look like a foot on each side. Either way the pilot will sell and those who purchase it will enjoy. I cant get onboard with the new crv loved the last gen. Inlaws own a stripped out one and its quite a good vehicle would imagine with some opinions it would have been even better.

Lift Suspension is the main thing, for CAFE light truck classification.
That is pretty much what defines a CUV/Crossover. A car-based unibody platform that meets light-truck CAFE standards like a truck-platform SUV.
Not sure if the sliding doors would disqualify the light truck classification, to be grouped with the passenger cars, but lower ride height will.
Frankly, above... the minivan looks better than that utterly bland Pilot. Pilot used to be square and serious looking. This is ridiculous.
Honda has lost it... CR-V and the new smaller compact version (HR-V?, I can't get motivated enough to even remember it's name) are horrible, too.
A practical car doesn't need to be soul-quenchingly boring.

People lambasted the R-class... but now, considering this Pilot... the R-class looks like a breath of fresh air, aesthetically.
It was just debatable as to whether R-class had the ride height to justify a light truck CAFE classification... it might be low enough to still be a passenger car regulated vehicle, like a Minivan is, just without the sliding doors.
Now M-B has MLK series CUVs to take it's place.
